Mr. Robert P. Deering (Bob) was a certified public accountant with the accounting firm, Pomares & Co., LLP, in Sacramento, CA, starting in 1973 and becoming a partner in 1979.  He retired in 2018 but still does a few tax returns for long time clients.  Seeing a need, he helped establish a national industry specialization organization called the AutoCPA Group.  This group is comprised of major accounting firms in the country which advocate for major tax and accounting policy in the automotive industry.  He was their chairman in 1995-96.

Joining the Rotary Club of East Sacramento in May 1985, Bob has served as a director of the club on numerous occasions.  He served as their president in 1996-97 and has been awarded their Presidents Award, Rotarian of Year and “Chick Alexander Memorial Award” for outstanding contributions to Rotary.  He is a Major Donor to the Rotary International Foundation, a member of the Paul Harris Society, and the Bequest Society.  He has also received the Service Above Self Award from Rotary International and the District Service Award and The Citation for Meritorious Service from The Rotary Foundation.

In District 5180, he has served as District Treasurer, Assistant Governor, has been on the Group Study Exchange Committee, being their chairperson from 2007 through 2010 and served on many other District Committees.  He chaired the 2008-09 District Training Assembly and led the District’s Group Study Exchange team to Sweden in 2007.  He served as District 5180’s District Governor in 2012-13 and was the chairperson of both the District’s Advisory Committee and District Rotary Foundation Committee from 2014 to 2017.  Currently he serves the district as its Treasurer. 

He along with Past President Brian Gladden of the Rotary Club of Roseville, spearheaded a Global Grant Project to bring education training to students in combatting human trafficking in District 5180 along with an outreach campaign to make the general population of the Greater Sacramento area aware of this problem in their communities.  This project raised close to $400,000 with help from The Rotary Foundation through a Global Grant.  He is very active in the Rotary Action Group Against Slavery and is serving as it’s Chairperson through the 2024-25 Rotary year. 

International his year as District Governor, Bob has worked in many areas in Rotary International’s Zones 26 and 27.  He chaired the District Governor’s Training Session in both 2013 in Phoenix, Arizona and 2014 in Victoria B.C., was the chairperson of the Governor Nominee Advanced Training Seminar in the fall of 2015, and the following three years was the Vice Chairman for the Zone Educational Training Team as well as chairperson for the Governor Elect Training Seminar.  He also chaired a committee to develop and present a summit on Combatting Human Trafficking which was held in San Diego, California during October 2022.
